QEAA - DigitalSign leads in Portugal

DigitalSign has successfully completed the compliance audit and becomes the first Portuguese QTSP to issue Qualified Electronic Attestation of Attributes (QEAA).

First Portuguese QTSP to issue QEAA

We're officially certified. We successfully completed the compliance audit, obtained certification under the eIDAS 2.0 Regulation. In this way, our QEAA issuing service is already published in Trusted List National. It is also one of the first at European level to issue Qualified Electronic Attestation of Attributes (QEAA) under the new EIDAS 2.0 Regulation.

It is a milestone that we are very proud of, and that puts Portugal at the forefront of one of the biggest changes in European digital identity in the last decade.

In this way, by standing among the first in Europe, DigitalSign is not just meeting a standard. It is helping to build the infrastructure on which banks, insurance companies, energy companies, retailers, telecommunications operators, public administration, among others, will operate. And it does so from Portugal, with closeness and knowledge of the national market that few can offer.

What is an Qualified Electronic Attestation of Attributes?

An Qualified Electronic Attestation of Attributes is, in short, a digital proof, legally recognised throughout the European Union, of one or more attributes of a natural or legal person. For example, an attribute may be the age, address, professional qualification, license, existence and legal status of a company, or the powers of someone to act on behalf of an organisation.

However, the difference is in the qualified word. In fact, issued by a qualified provider based on the European trust infrastructure, an QEAA has the same legal value as a paper document and is accepted equally in any Member State. Therefore, it is no longer necessary to repeat checks, exchange copies of documents or rely on manual processes. Instead, the attribute is presented safely, immediately and verifiable, revealing only what is strictly necessary for each transaction.

What do the QEAA allow companies?

It is in the corporate fabric that the potential of the QEAA becomes more evident. Below we gather the most impacted use cases for organizations.

Business Client Knowledge and Onboarding

Checking a company before she hires it is no longer a slow and documental process. In fact, the existence, legal situation and essential data of a legal person are automatically and reliably proven, contributing thus to accelerate the integration of new customers, suppliers and partners and to significantly reduce the risk of fraud.

Representation Powers and Mandates

One of the greatest gains of eIDAS 2.0 is to allow you to unequivocally prove that a person has the power to act on behalf of an organization. Signing a contract, authorising an operation or accessing a service representing the company becomes simple, secure and legally sustained, with no power of attorney on paper or case-by-case checks.

Banking and Financial Services

Opening accounts and hiring financial products can become totally digital. Instead of collecting and validating root documentation, the institution relies directly on already verified and qualified attributes, fulfilling customer identification and money laundering prevention obligations with faster, lower cost and much higher experience.

Energy Sector and Utilities

A company in the energy sector can completely transform the membership of new customers and the change of supplier. With a QEAA, ownership, address and customer data, whether private or company, are immediately proven, eliminating paperwork and evidence and accelerating the activation of the supply. On the business side, contracting between operators is based on verified identities and powers.

Sectoral Qualifications, Licenses and Credentials

Many activities depend on professional qualifications or regulatory licenses. The EAQs allow these credentials to be presented and verified digitally, with legal value, either to enable a worker, to prove an accreditation of the company or to access a service reserved for authorised entities.

Retail and Large Consumption

In trade, the QEAA support age verification in age-restricted sales without exposing the date of birth, and allow loyalty programs and relationships with business customers based on actual and verified identities, reducing fraud in both the physical shop and e-commerce.

The moment is now!

Adoption is not a distant hypothesis. Under eIDAS 2.0, regulated sectors such as banking, energy, telecommunications and large digital platforms will have to accept the European Digital Identity Wallet and the attributes contained therein.

Organisations that anticipate will turn a compliance obligation into a competitive advantage, offering simpler, safer and faster processes than competition.
